Highway History: California’s Ridge Route

RidgeRoute

In the Los Angeles Times on May 2nd there is a fine article by Charles Fleming entitled “A Rocky Road for Historic Highway” that might well be of interest to Moving History readers. It deals with the history of the Ridge Route and its current status. The Ridge Route crossed the Tehachapi Mountains and linked northern and southern CA and was built in 1915. It was abandoned after the interstates replaced it. The Times also has a video detailing the road closed to cars and Harrison Scott’s efforts to save it.
