November is an important month for transportation history as it is the month in 1849 that the inventor of the gasoline powered farm tractor, John Froelich was born in Girard, Iowa.   Froelich’s invention was perfected by the Waterloo Tractor company and ultimately became the John Deere tractor that we are familiar with today.  Mr. Froelich changed the practice and productivity of farmers significantly with his invention, particularly for the farmers of the Great Plains states where the first powered tractor was introduced.  For more information about Mr. Froelich and the impact of the tractor see the History of the John Deere Tractor Works.
