The San Francisco Chronicle recently touted the city’s plans to enter a bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. The beautiful San Francisco Bay area would be a wonderful venue for the games. The final decision for the games location will be made in 2017. One of the major planning efforts that would accompany the decision to host the games would be to plan the transportation of hundreds of thousands of athletes, fans and news media around the region in a manner that ensures that everyone reaches their destination on time.
One of the best examples of this sort of planning effort was the preparatory work done by great public employees at Caltrans and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the 1984 Olympics hosted by the city of Los Angeles.
